WORKERS

02/09

I love workers
The man who sweeps the floor
At the Merchandise Mart in Chicago
The woman who cleans the Bonnet House
in Fort Lauderdale
The guard at the Los Angeles City Museum
Who lets us ride in the large freight elevator
Workers everywhere
I want to capture their pictures
Take their photographs
All of them

At the carwash
This day before Valentines's Day
The man who vacuums the wayback
Smiles and reminds me to give him the keys
The woman who drives my car
Through the wash and
Protects the roof from the overhead gears
The man who fills out the forms on the clipboard
Vacuums the wayback
As I empty the trash from the back seat
He smiles and reminds me again
To give him the keys
The woman at the register
Takes my sixteen dollars
Asks my plans for the holiday
I tell her about the two hot chicks
We are taking on a mystery date
"Two?" she questions
"What are you doing with two?"
"Oh there's two of us also
We're a foursome."
"That's unusual," she ponders
"Not really we're homosexuals
And they're lesbians.
It's taken us four months to plan this trip."
She breaks out laughing

I want to take her picture
All their pictures
Put in a book
Show the world
Workers
I love the workers
